In addition to semi-private, private lessons, and parties, Nor Cal Board Lessons premier skateboarding lesson program is now being offered through the Folsom and Fair Oaks parks and recreation departments! This very successful program has been developed over the past 5 years by professional skateboarding instructor Brian Owens and targets the complete beginner to accomplished intermediate skateboarders. Training with safe and proven methods, this program can teach anyone the fundamentals of safely riding and progressing on any kind of skateboard. Each course taught by one of our passionate and professional instructors focuses on training the skills that promote self confidence, safe and fast progression, and exemplify fun, respectful skateboarding!

Skateboarding 101
Just got a new skateboard? This introductory clinic is the absolute precursor to any of our Introduction to Skateboarding-Level I classes. You will work with Brian to discover the basics of this popular sport - learn to push and control your turns, boarding tuning and adjustments.
Level I Classes
The typical Level I course consists of four 1-1/2 hour classes. This GREAT course is for the person just learning to ride their first skateboard or still perfecting the ABC’s of board control. By far our most popular course producing amazing results; it’s a safe and extremely fun experience for any beginner boarder. Starting with how to properly wear pads and check a boards for safety, this course teaches the important fundamentals safe skateboarding including; how to safely fall, proper foot placement, how to push, turn and stop. The course leads into carving techniques, rolling into transitions, pumping (a method of producing momentum without having to push with feet), and advanced balance training techniques. Additionally, skate park etiquette and respectful skateboarding are topics discussion in these courses. A complete beginner skater (true first timer) may repeat this course in order to perfect the fundamentals before moving to a Level II course.
Level II Classes
Developed for the advanced beginner skate park skater and focused more on each skater’s skill level, this course is designed to refine advanced fundamentals and encourage further skill progression. Exercises for perfecting pumping, dropping in, rock and rolls, drops, grinds, and slides are part of the regular curriculum for this course. Advanced techniques for grinds, airs, spins, board slides and curb tricks are introduced as the class advances in skill level. Because of the format of the Level II course skaters are invited to participate in it as often as desired.
Ultimate Boarders Camp
Designed for the beginner snowboarder, skateboarder or wakeboarder, this is the dream camp for the avid “boarder” ready to take their skills to the next level. UBC takes place at RUSH Training Center and will include indoor snowboard, skateboard and wakeboard lessons in the state-of-the-art facility. Dropping-in the half pipe on a skateboard, sliding your first box on a snowboard or even learning a wakeboard handle passes has never been so fun or easy. Participants of this class will learn the skills needed to have a lifetime of safe fun on any kind of action sport board.
Beginning in September 2008 Nor Cal Board Lessons will bring snowboard training off the hill, offering courses on extreme balance, rail & box training, as well as beginner “learn to” lessons for all ages.
Each off-snowboarding camp is focused on teaching participants training techniques for the fundamental cross-over skills that apply to all board sports. These skills include edge control, board weighting, balance, air control (air awareness), visualization techniques, and more. Camps are designed to teach and refine skills that can take years to develop and typically are only obtained through time spent on a board. Camps focus on technique tuning exercises that can be done year round and will continually improve any boarder’s abilities.
Mini-Ripper Off-Snow Snowboard Camp
These camps are taught by our professional skateboarding instructor Brian Owens and are designed for 6-13yo beginner snowboarders or skateboarders. All training is done off-snow in Folsom and designed with safety, progression, and fun in mind. We teach the fundamentals; from how to properly put on equipment and “skate” the snowboard, to lifts, edge control, falling, and etiquette, these camps utilize proven training methods that will ensure much safer and faster progression on the mountain.. Devices such as trampolines, snow and skateboards, and various balance training boards are used in many classes. Levels I & II.
Board Sliders Boot Camp
These camps are designed for the intermediate to accomplished snowboarder who would like to explore the world of sliding rails and boxes without the pain of learning on the hill. Devices such as snowboard boxes and rails, snow and skateboards, and various balance training boards are used in many classes. Ages 11 -60 Levels I, II & III.
Boarder's Balance Course
Balance is the most valuable skill of any board sport enthusiast. Working with the same balance training devices and progressive training techniques professional athletes use, this course will teach participants various balance training methods and programs that can be used year around to greatly improve their board sport skills. Each course will touch on techniques used by top snow, skate, wake, and surf boarders around the world. This course is taught by professional skateboard instructor Brian Owens.

Surfing the lake behind a boat WITHOUT a rope = Wakesurfing. The hottest sport on the water right now is rumored to have been around for 40+ years. This exciting sport is low impact, easy to learn and best of all can be done anywhere wakeboarding or water skiing is done.
Designed for the complete beginner to intermediate riders, all lessons are taught on your wakeboard/wakesurf boat (see boat guidelines and restrictions). Focused on the safety, lessons will cover topics like boat safety, proper boat weighting, ride speeds, correct pull-up form and introducing advanced techniques like switch riding, ollies and basic airs. Appropriate sized Pro-Wakesurf boards by the Walker Project can be provided for participants if needed. Services regularly offered at: Folsom Lake, Sacramento River and the Sacramento Delta.
Boat Guidelines & Restrictions
Boat Guidelines & Restrictions: ALL boats are subject to passing a pre class inspection by NCBL instructor. Boats MUST HAVE AN INBOARD MOTOR with the propeller under the boat (see pic).
Private Lessons
Single lessons booked on a private one-on-one basis. Locations include local skate parks, skate spots, or your private residence (Training equipment including ramps can be provided).
Semi-Private Lessons
Single lessons booked in small groups (3-5 skaters) for all skill levels and age groups. Classes are comprised of a small group of skateboarders of approximately the same skill level. Designed to accommodate special training, scheduling, or privacy needs, these classes are a great option for someone who wants more personal attention or that little extra direction to get over a learning hump. Semi-Private lessons are held at Cummings Family Park (a.k.a. Folsom Skate Park).
Home School Programs
These 1 to 1 1/2 hour lessons are organized to accommodate a large variety of skill-sets and age groups (beginner to advanced). Scheduled on a semi-private basis, these lessons are held at Cummings Family Park a.k.a. Folsom Skate Park on Wednesdays between 8:30 – 11:00am and qualify with many local home school organizations as a state required physical education credit. Contact us if your child’s home school organization doesn't already offer a skateboarding PE option and we will work on getting on their list!
Birthday Parties
Our professional instructors will provide fun programming including group lessons, small contests, and other safe skateboard oriented activities. Parties range from 1 – 4 hours in duration, with goodie bags and prize giveaways included. Birthday parties are typically thrown at Cummings Family Park (a.k.a. Folsom Skate Park), as they have a great monitored venue with a shaded BBQ area.
Block Parties
Our professional instructors will provide fun programming including group lessons, small contests, and other safe skateboard oriented activities. Parties range from 1 – 4 hours in duration with goodie bags and prize giveaways included. Ramps and training equipment will also be provided.
